The 22 Year Old Cancer Patient Throws The First Pitch At Tribe Game

CLEVELAND — A 22-year-old Mayfield Heights man who is battling an aggressive form of cancer set a goal for himself: He wants to visit every Major League ballpark

Jeffrey Newbauer is now one step closer to completing his mission after visiting the home of his favorite team, NewsChannel5 reported.

Newbauer took the mound at Jacobs Field on Friday night to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

It was a dream come true for Newbauer, who was able to meet Indians players and coaches and even posed for pictures with Cleveland Indians legend Bob Feller.

Newbauer is being treated at the Cleveland Clinic for an aggressive cancer with which he was diagnosed three years ago at the age of 19.

Now, he’s focused on raising money and attention for childhood cancer through the Little Heroes organization.

“It really needs more attention. They need more research and money than they’re getting,” said Newbauer.

As Newbauer’s cancer became even more aggressive, he told his dad about his dream to visit every Major League ballpark.

So far, he’s made it to Wrigley Field, Fenway Park and, Friday night, Jacobs Field.

His tour is now well under way, but he still has many more to visit.

Newbauer said he is very grateful for the love and support of his family and friends.

“The support I get from family and friends is unbelievable,” said Newbauer. “They pick me up when I’m down. They give me motivation.”

Newbauer said going to ballparks gives him a needed three-hour break from the real world. So, earlier this week, he went to games in San Diego, Anaheim and Detroit. Next, he’s scheduled to fly to Atlanta Saturday.
