Former Italy Captain, Giacinto Facchetti, Succumbs To Cancer

Inter Milan are mourning the loss of president Giacinto Facchetti, who died on Monday from cancer.

Facchetti, who was 64, was one of Inter’s greatest-ever players. He started out as a centre forward but was converted to an attacking full-back by coach Helenio Herrera and went on to score 60 goals – a Serie A record for that position.

He won the European Cup in 1964 and 1965 and claimed four Serie A titles in an illustrious career which also saw him make 94 appearances for Italy.

Facchetti succeeded Massimo Moratti as Inter president in January 2004.
